Job Posting - Project Lead

Fort Albany First Nation along with Survivors, Elders, Knowledge keepers, families, and community members is leading the Nee Kee Wa Nan Initiative to find unmarked graves on or around the former St. Anne’s (Fort Albany) Indian Residential School site, uncover the truth and bring healing to the community by ensuring safe and trauma-informed practices.

 

To support this initiative, Fort Albany First Nation is looking for a Project Lead who will work under the direction of the Chief and Council and oversee the smooth delivery of the project, ensure consistent communication with working group members, and provide support to survivors, families, community members, and other stakeholders. The incumbent will report directly to the Chief and Council.

This is a full-time 6-monthterm position with the potential for a permanent position.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Project Lead will be responsible for:

  • Delivering project objectives, implementing, evaluating, and reporting of work plans to the Chief and Council that aligns with TRC Calls of Action.
  • Submitting Federal funding proposal to support the initiative and balancing budget by keeping track of financial expenses.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams (i.e., archeologists, researchers, investigators etc.) and coordinating services required by the initiative.
  • Developing and implementing culturally grounded wellness plans in consultation with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, survivors and working group members.
  • Developing, maintaining, and protecting electronic databases that record project activities, details of engagement, survivors’ testimonials, and archival records.
  • Being the point of contact for all matters related to Nee Kee Wa Nan Initiative and representing the initiative on committees, workshops, and decision-making     table.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

The following qualifications and skills are required:

  • Undergraduate degree in Indigenous studies, peace and conflict studies, social science, or any related field. Consideration may be given to outstanding candidates with experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the impact of colonialization in relation to Indian Residential Schools in Canada.
  • Integrate Indigenous worldviews in project management and deliveries.
  • Experience in facilitating Indigenous community engagement sessions grounded in cultural and ceremonial practices.
  • Strong communication and networking skills.
  • confident in public speaking and ability to navigate challenging circumstances with knowledge, and diplomacy.
  • Minimum two years of project management experience in Indigenous community.
  • The ability to speak Cree is an asset.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:                                                                                            
  • Satisfactory criminal record check.
  • Child abuse Registry check.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Available in the evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to travel in and outside of the province within a short notice. 

Salary is negotiable based on background and qualification.
